4 stars (Best photo editor in this price range but not worth upgrading from 3.0) - I read many reviews for software. I always read the worst reviews first and take what people say with a grain of salt. In reading reviews for Photoshop Elements, I see many people giving this program lackluster reviews. Not based on the software's capability, but based on its lack of additional features over previous installments or the program's speed. I hope to address what others have said and help you make a decision on whether to buy this program based on its attributes and your needs. Let me make it clear by saying that Elements is an excellent, if not the best photo editor in its price range. Although the price and features in this program may be more than the average person with a digital camera may need, I feel this program is an excellent choice for all types of users. Be advised, this program has a steeper learning curve than many other photo editors. In addition to that, expect to spend $30-$40 for a book to learn how to use many editing features in Elements if you are not already familiar with it. Adobe has included it's excellent Photo Organizer in Elements 3 & 4. What's important to realize is that the organizer is a nice way to keep track of and view all your photos, but it's not what you would want to use for quickly viewing an occasional photo here and there. (When I double click an image file I want it open within a second or two.) It takes approximately 10-15 seconds for the elements organizer to load on my laptop if it's not resident in the computers memory. (Longer or shorter based on computer's hardware of course, but probably not too much shorter.) This is why many people complain about the speed of the program and the reason I don't recommend associating elements with many of your image file types. 4 stars (NICE AND AFFORDABLE TOOL FOR HOBBYISTS) - For the non-professional artist and/or film-maker, this is as good as image-making gets. The combination of Photoshop Elements 4.0 and Premiere Elements 2.0 let you take your hobby to the very top without breaking the bank. Despite running much slower than the 3.0 edition, Photoshop Elements 4.0 has a number of new improvements going for it: particularly when it comes to enhancing and arranging images. Flexible range of manipulative features were included in this regard. Still, I was disappointed that Adobe decided to remove the useful file-browser feature, (which was present in the Photoshop Elements 3.0 edition). Also, Premiere Elements 2.0 is capable of handling any amateur video and audio assignment that you may want to assign to it, but be warned that it is memory-hungry. Running this video-editing application on any computer with less than 512MB of RAM may end-up testing your patience to the fullest. Unless your patience compares to that of the biblical Job, do consider it wise to upgrade your RAM (if it is less than 512MB). In terms of processor, any Pentium 4 (or its corresponding equivalent) will deliver a decent performance. The same applies to dual Pentium III equivalents. A single Pentium III processor (or its equivalent) is not the best option here! Finally, another good thing about this software bundle is that they support a wide range of digital photo cameras and video cameras. The learning curve for both Applications is not that steep. 5 stars (Big step-up from 2.0) - Just returned from a workshop at the Santa Fe Photo Workshop. Was amazed to learn how much more I can do with Elements 3.0 compared to 2.0. There was no difference in the class between the capabilities of my Elements 3.0 and the folks who were using Photoshop CS2; however, there were lots of things I would not have been able to do in 2.0. I am sure that for professional photographers, CS2 offers many advantages - but, as a "serious amateur", I am glad I didn't spring for the additional cost. I love the way you can move back and forth between the quick fix function and standard editing with just a click on buttons at the top of the screen. Having the adjustment sliders down the right side of the screen is very convenient - although that makes the photo workspace smaller. For the price, Elements 3.0 is top notch in my opinion. 3 stars (Amazing color-correction, but Windows users beware!) - I feel like an idiot for buying this software. This is a Macintosh application that has been ported to Windows with predictably confusing results. I was looking for an inexpensive alternative to the various photo editting tools I've acquired with different hardware peripherals. In the past I have relied on an old Adobe product that came with my HP scanner to do simple photo editting, but I was having trouble installing it on my Windows XP machine, and thought it was time to look for something more modern. A large part of this product suite is a photo organizer that is not as easy to use as Picasa, a free product available from Google. Adobe Premiere Elements 2 0 Video Editing DVD

5 stars (This product is a must-buy offer for video editing) - I've used this product for video editing of my recent errand to Nanital. I gave stunning results and I was amazed with its ease of usability. It also includes a very comprehensive help. In summary it is another accomplishment for ADOBE. 4 stars (Premiere Elements 2.0 is a Qualified Success!) - Premiere Elements 2.0 is pretty good and easy to use. While Pinnacle Studio 9 is a bit easier to use, Premiere 2.0 does seem much more reliable that Studio. The good is that you can output both Windows and Mac in addition to DVD format video, whereas with the Apple packages, such as iMovie or even Final Cut Express you're limited to Quicktime and non-Windows formats. Editing was relatively easy, yet still has a small learning curve; the should scale the items on the screen a bit better but if you have good eyes (and I don't!) you can find just about everything at your finger tips. About the only complaint I have is that the output quality is not as good as Final Cut Express. For some reason the resulting DVD image I created was less resolution than the original/source video which was a VOB file of an old 8mm Wedding film. Not sure why that happened but it did. Also the helptext gets an average rating from me. While some information is right there, easy to get at, other stuff isn't in the help or is worded a bit too obscure. Titling is about the only thing that Pinnacle does better. Premiere's is okay, but many of the checkboxes seem to work backwards. For example the "Start off Screen" for a rolling title caused the title to start on screen and roll off screen, whereas Start On Screen had the opposite affect. So trial and error comes into play. The Elements of Style- Fourth Edition

5 stars (timeless) - The Elements of Style is one of the most important books that I own. Although I'm out of college, I refer to it again and again. Even if I'm not correcting grammar or punctuation, I'll still open the book to see what beautiful writing looks like. The writing is so darn clear that I often joke, "If God wanted someone to teach Jesus how to write, God would have hired Strunk and White." The last chapter deals with writing and how to craft one's own voice. This is valuable for everyone, and although Elements isn't a "how to" book on fiction writing, I've found S&W's advice to be sound while working on novels and short stories. Keep this book in your coat pocket. Study it at red lights or on the subway. This book is timeless. And in my conversations with Neil Strauss, "Style" himself never once brought up this book on Style. Who is it, then, that reads this little manual? Academics? Everything it says is important, but the most imporant aspect of great writing is clear and engaging communication. You can read this book, but you might do better to read the best writers. McCourt, Strauss, Hemingway, Hunter S. Thompson, E.L. Doctrow, Tom Wolfe -- now there's a syllabus for learning the elements of Style. 5 stars (Great! Adobe Premiere Elements Video Editing

5 stars (Extremely userfriendly) - I have no experience of video editing before purchasing this program, and I must say that this program is very easy to use. I have a laptop with a Centrino P1500-M with 512 MB RAM and 60GB harddisk, and this is very sufficient. The program functions very well and smoothly. It was very easy to capture video from my Canon Elura 85, and the setup in the program itself makes everything very easy to work with. I've made 4 DVDs in a couple of days, with transitions, menus, added music, end credits, and such. I highly recommend this program to anybody who is interested in using a home version of video editing. 5 stars (Great all-in-one product) - I have had Adobe Premiere Elements 1.0 for a few weeks now, and I am very happy with it. It does everything I would want to turn my home video into DVDs: Capture the video directly from my camcorder, edit the video, author the DVD, and finally burn the DVD. I found working with it very easy. It came with an introduction DVD. After watching it (about 1/2 hour in length I think), I was ready to make my first DVD. Adobe Premiere Elements 1.0 only works with a firewire cable. My camcorder supports both USB and firewire, and other video applications work fine over USB, but Adobe Premiere Elements 1.0 requires you to use a firewire cable. It won't let you burn dual-layer (8GB) DVDs. Only 4.7GB DVDs can be burned. It also won't burn VCDs or SVCDs. However, you can output your video to MPEG, QuickTime, or Windows Media and burn it in another program. The DVD menus you can create are somewhat limited. You cannot do all the cool things you see in commercial DVDs. However, for home video, Adobe Premiere Elements 1.0 does what you need: Simple menus with "Play All" and "Select Scene" options. Kung Fu Elements- Wushu Training and Martial Arts Application Manual

5 stars (A lot of good drills.) - If you're looking for drills and ideas to strengthen your foundation in Chinese Martial Arts, this is a great all-around book. I've been studying CMA for over 10 years and I still found this book to be refreshing. It's all about the basics and ways to strengthen the basics. It's those types of drills that, if you practice them diligently, will give you that edge in competition. At the higher levels, it's the little things that matter 5 stars (Good book for begining Wushu.) - I have studied only Japanese styles in a formal setting so far (karate and aikido) and wanted to have some additional practice and influence to help blend my style. I believe the book is intended for a refresher and additional practice for veterans of the style but it works nicely if you already have had some martial arts experience. It gives aspects of style, good stretching exercises, kung fu attainment training techniques and of course free fighting applications. Though you cant substitute reading the "applications" section for formal, hands on experience. I would recomend this book as a resourse for any martial artist wishing to expand their base of knowlege and help blend their style. Peace 4 stars (best overall martial arts training guide) - As a martial artist who has trained in both Japanese (Karate/Judo) and Chinese styles (Shaolin Choy li fut and taiji) I refer to this frequently to refresh my training knowledge. My only beef with it is that it is kind of lacking on some aspects of martial arts such as chi development and training tools. The only other aspect that annoys me is how it refers to martial art styles such as Choy Li Fut in a weird romanization of translation such as calling this style Cao Li Fun when nobody except for a Cantonese speaker would ever call it this name. BUT with that said overall I highly recommend it as an excellent supplement to your serious wushu training. ...

5 stars (A great video editing product with a great photo product) - I am thoroughly satisfied with Premiere elements and the photoshop elements bundle. My primary purpose was to capture video. I had software that came with my camera and my computer that were video packages but nothing was easy or very functional. I have been able to capture digital video on DV tape from a CANON digital camcorder and transfer it via IEEE 1394 firewire cable (purchased separately) to my computer. What you will like about this software: 1. Transferring video is easy - plug it in and let it start recording. Make sure you have enough free Hard Drive space available. Video takes gig's to record. 2. The video will be automatically subdivided into separate clips based on the breaks on your film. This makes it easy to add transitions and edit. 3. Adding effects and transitions is easy - just drag the one you want to the breakpoint on the clip. There are a good selection of fades and transitions which look professional. 4. You can add titles and captions with ease. Just create the caption and drag onto to the second video track in the segment you want to contain the caption. 5. It comes with a 20 minute training video that covers photoshop and premiere elements. In 20 minutes I could do everything I needed... and then some. 6. Burning to a dvd - I created one dvd on my first try with no glitches. It was a 20 minute video. 7. You can create DVD slideshows of picture galleries. Grab your photos and drop them on a video timeline and you're basically done. You can also add transitions and title pages and effects to these items as well. 8. Add music to your video sequences. Using digitally recorded music or any audio clip you can drop the audio track next to the video tracks to create background music. 4 stars (Elements is worth the money.) - Elements is great. Apple screwed us over by insisting to Adobe that it incorporate iPhoto into the sorting and downloading process. The Windows version is stand alone. iPhoto is lame, and Elements is a huge step up in capability. Get a book "the photoshop elements 3 book, for digital photographers", by Scott Kelby. I can not emphasize how excellent this book is, and section at a time will help with exact values to use for perfect results. Need only read the few pages you are using, it does not build from front to back. Photoshop in any form has a huge learning curve due to it's huge list of capabilities.
